Portogruaro, September 23, 2026 – With the official inauguration of the Portogruaro Agrivoltaics-Park in the Veneto region of Italy, Next2Sun and its project partners are setting a strong example of how agriculture and solar power generation can successfully coexist. The 1 MW facility is based on Next2Sun’s vertical bifacial agrivoltaics technology and combines renewable electricity generation with continued agricultural use of the land. Crops cultivated between the module rows at the Portogruaro Agrivoltaics Park will include cereals, soybeans, herbs, and flowering plants.
Numerous guests from politics, agriculture, the energy sector, and industry attended the opening ceremony to learn first-hand about the innovative concept and the opportunities that agrivoltaics offer for sustainable land use.
As part of a panel discussion accompanying the inauguration, participants explored the role of agrivoltaics in the future of Italy’s energy system. The round table featured Carlo Beltrami as moderator, alongside Lucia Krasovec-Lucas from AIAS, Aldo Campesan from Italia Solare, and representatives of GSE and other institutions. The discussion focused on future support schemes for agrivoltaic projects, the importance of the technology in achieving climate and energy targets, the compatibility of agriculture and landscape protection, as well as new income and value creation opportunities for farmers through the combined production of food and solar power.
Solar Power When It Is Most Needed
Next2Sun’s vertical bifacial technology achieves its highest electricity yields during the morning and evening hours, thereby ideally complementing the generation profiles of conventional photovoltaic systems. At the same time, most of the land remains available for agricultural use, as the supporting structures occupy only a very small portion of the site. In this way, the system avoids competition between food and energy production and enables genuine dual use of agricultural land.

With the inauguration of the Portogruaro Agrivoltaics Park and the recent establishment of an Italian subsidiary, Next2Sun is consistently expanding its presence in Italy.
